Wayne Wells of Golden Calabash has been riding a wave of success over the past six years that he has been in business. Not only has he brought woodwork to new heights, but with a difficult technique which demands great skill. As a result they are highly original and very unique pieces because Wayne and his apprentices carve the wooden boxes from the natural shape of the wood they find. Cleverly creating hidden slots and illusions by forming each shape and then putting them back together so perfectly that these boxes show absolutely no seams. Carved wood spirals become jewellery boxes and intricate , abstract wooden shapes become functional art.
