Although it's illegal to collect black coral here, an exception was made for Bert, a diver who has been harvesting corals and fashioning them into fine jewelry and objets d'art for more than 35 years. Collectors avidly seek out this type of coral, not only for the quality of its craftsmanship, but also because it's becoming increasingly rare and may one day not be offered for sale at all.

Hello. On our honeymoon 33 years ago my husband and I purchsed black coral. Mine is about a 2" piece that looks like a twig, my bracelet is black coral pieces all around. My husband has a neck chain like my bracelet. To hang from this he has a carved piece.

At the time of purchase, the gentleman who sold them to us told to always keep them and that they were going to of great value some day.

I am now reading that black coral is now illegal to sell. This led me to wonder how valuable are our pieces that we purchased 33 years ago. By the way, I believe these were made right in front of our very eyes.

Hopefully, you will be able to give me some idea of what their value may be. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
