Designed in 1973 by Long Island PGA professional Bob Joyce, the 5,685 yard Buccaneer is a challenging par-70 hill course which requires every club in a golfer's bag. (Two other sets of tees measure 5,200 and 4,530 yards respectively.)
The Buccaneer offers 18 scenic holes of golf on a beautiful tropical course surrounding the resort on the shores of Beauregard Bay. The shimmering blue waters of the Caribbean Sea can be seen from thirteen holes.
The challenging par-3 third hole is a particular favorite of camera buffs, offering spectacular vistas of Christiansted and beyond to the west, Green Cay and Buck Island to the east and on a clear day, St. Thomas, St. John and the British Virgin Islands to the north.
Rated by Sean Duffy on 12/29/05 Short resort course, designed to get you round under 3.5 hours, but surprisingly difficult to score. Greens are hard and not terribly accessible. WInd always a factor.
Suggestion: If you can't bring your own clubs, go to the beach. The Goldsmith quality rentals are not worth even $25 and will definitely spoil your day. Even well made lousy clubs will do that.
Tim, Jeanne and Jeff run the pro-shop and are nice folks.Just show up in the AM and they will get you out on the course. $100+ for non-Buccaneer guest, is the same as the only other course on the island, Carambola. Buccaneer is easier to get to. Carambola is a better test of golf. But bring your own clubs.
