Rara Avis is a thoroughly charming, hard to find four bedroom, four bath seaside villa located in an exceptionally lovely and peaceful setting in Hart Bay. A total remodeling and rebuilding of Rara was completed in April, 1997. The result is an uncommonly beautiful home that offers outstanding island elegance, privacy, and spacious comfort for up to eight persons. Rara consists of three buildings and a pool that are connected by garden patios and walkways. Native stonework, exposed beam cathedral ceilings, terra cotta tiled floors, private and cozy decks and patios, designer furniture and artwork, lush tropical landscaping and a picture postcard setting combine to create an immensely enjoyable island home. A four minute walk down a private path leads to the 83 degree crystal clear waters, excellent snorkeling and white sands of Hart Bay Beach.

The artistic living and dining rooms are furnished with a combination of antiques and designer bamboo furniture that blends comfort and function with beauty. Large wooden doors and sliding glass doors open to warm breezes and a seaside deck with magnificent sweeping views of the South Shore National Park. Dine inside at the stately mahogany table seating eight or outside on the sheltered garden patio.

Two large master bedrooms (one queen and one king) are located in separate cabanas that offer exceptional privacy for two couples. One master bedroom includes an oceanfront deck that is ideal for morning coffee, while the other bedroom includes a private garden patio. Both large master baths are tiled, well ventilated and very private. The two guest bedrooms (twins that convert to a king) are located below the Great House and also offer romantic ocean views. The guest bedrooms share a bath and the fourth bath is located off the kitchen in the Great House.

Rara Avis is a wonderful example of sinful and romantic luxury at a surprisingly affordable price. This is definitely a villa experience that will generate starry-eyed memories years after you've left St. John. Rara Avis is located in an unusually quiet and private oceanfront setting where warm trade winds, mesmerizing views and the background sounds of breaking surf weave a totally relaxing almost magical atmosphere.

This is one of our most popular villas and if you're fortunate enough to stay at Rara Avis, you'll easily understand why. The town of Cruz Bay is two miles away; tennis is one mile; restaurants/night life are a half mile distant.
