St. Maarten Marriage Requirements
Request for marriages must be submitted at least 14 days before the scheduled ceremony to be conducted by the Registrar.
The following notarized original documents must be submitted to the Registrar.
A birth certificate of both parties to prove the legality of same, these documents should be provided with an "Apostille Stamp."
Unmarried persons must be present a declaration of marital status not older than 3 months.
Persons must be at the least 18 years of age
If minors, permission of the parents is required
Address of both parties
Duration of stay on St. Maarten
Names of parents, if still alive
Six witnesses if the marriage is performed outside of the Marriage Hall. Two witnesses if the marriage same takes place in the Marriage Hall.
If widow(er), a death certificate
If divorced, a divorce certificate
In the event persons are of foreign nationality, a valid passport is required.
Original document in languages other than Dutch or English need to be translated into the Dutch language. (i.e. a French document must be translated into Dutch, not English)
Marriages will be performed after all documents are found correct by the Civil Registrar.
